SSC GD Constable Exam Pattern and Syllabus

Short Information : The Staff Selection Commission (SSC) General Duty (GD) Constable Exam is a national-level exam conducted by the SSC to recruit candidates for various forces like BSF, CISF, CRPF, ITBP, SSB, NIA, SSF, and Assam Rifles.

Written Examination:

The SSC GD Constable exam consists of four main stages:

  • Computer-Based Examination (CBE)
  • Physical Efficiency Test (PET)
  • Physical Standard Test (PST)
  • Medical Examination

1. Computer-Based Examination (CBE):

The Computer-Based Examination (CBE) consists of four sections:

  • General Intelligence & Reasoning
  • General Knowledge & General Awareness
  • Elementary Mathematics
  • English/Hindi

Each section has 20 questions, making a total of 80 questions. Each question carries 2 marks, with a total of 160 marks. The duration of the exam is 60 minutes. Below is the syllabus for each section:


A. General Intelligence & Reasoning

This section tests the candidates' analytical aptitude and ability to observe and distinguish patterns. The topics covered in this section are:

  • Similarities and Differences
  • Spatial Visualization
  • Spatial Orientation
  • Visual Memory
  • Discrimination
  • Observation
  • Relationship Concepts
  • Arithmetical Reasoning and Figural Classification
  • Arithmetic Number Series
  • Non-Verbal Series
  • Coding and Decoding
  • Statement Conclusion
  • Syllogistic Reasoning

B. General Knowledge & General Awareness

This section assesses the candidates' general awareness of the environment around them and its application to society. Questions are based on:

  • India and its Neighboring Countries
  • Sports
  • History
  • Culture
  • Geography
  • Economic Scene
  • General Polity
  • Indian Constitution
  • Scientific Research
  • Current Affairs
  • National and International Importance

C. Elementary Mathematics

This section evaluates basic mathematical skills, including:

  • Number System
  • Computation of Whole Numbers
  • Decimals and Fractions
  • Relationship between Numbers
  • Fundamental Arithmetical Operations
  • Percentages
  • Ratio and Proportion
  • Averages
  • Interest
  • Profit and Loss
  • Discount
  • Mensuration
  • Time and Distance
  • Ratio and Time
  • Time and Work

D. English/Hindi

Candidates can choose either English or Hindi. This section assesses the basic understanding of the respective language:

English:

  • Error Spotting
  • Fill in the Blanks
  • Synonyms and Antonyms
  • Spellings
  • Phrase and Idiomatic Use
  • Comprehension
  • Cloze Test

Hindi:

  • वर्तनी की सामान्य अशुद्धियाँ तथा शब्दों के शब्द रूप
  • शब्दों के पर्यायवाची शब्द
  • अशुद्ध वाक्यों के शुद्ध रूप
  • वाक्यों में त्रुटिया
  • अनेकार्थी शब्द
  • मुहावरे एवं लोकोक्तियाँ
  • संधि-विच्छेद
  • गुढार्थी (क्लोज टेस्ट) तथा गद्यांश

2. Physical Efficiency Test (PET)

The Physical Efficiency Test (PET) is conducted to test the physical fitness of candidates. The requirements for the PET are:


Male Candidates:

  • Race: 5 km in 24 minutes for candidates from plains
  • 1.6 km in 6.5 minutes for candidates from hilly areas

Female Candidates:

  • Race: 1.6 km in 8.5 minutes for candidates from plains
  • 800 meters in 4 minutes for candidates from hilly areas

3. Physical Standard Test (PST)

The Physical Standard Test (PST) checks the physical standards of candidates such as height, chest (only for males), and weight. The minimum requirements are:

Height:

  • Male: 170 cm (relaxable for some categories)
  • Female: 157 cm (relaxable for some categories)

Chest (only for males):

  • Unexpanded: 80 cm
  • Expanded: Minimum expansion of 5 cm

Weight:

Proportionate to height and age as per medical standards

4. Medical Examination

The final stage is the medical examination, where candidates are tested for general health, eyesight, and other medical standards. Some of the medical standards include:

  • Eyesight: Minimum distant vision should be 6/6 and 6/9 of two eyes without correction.
  • General Health: The candidate must be free from any defect, deformity, or disease.
